Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to provide both clinical and administrative support within a general office environment. This role is essential in ensuring high-quality patient care, efficient clinic workflow, and adherence to healthcare standards and protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Perform venipuncture and EKGs as needed.
- Take vital signs and assist physicians with various in-office procedures.
- Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms and assist with walking, transferring, dressing, etc.
- Prepare patients for examination and collect/process specimens for point-of-care testing.
- Maintain proper set-up and sterilization of examination rooms and instruments.
- Check and document expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies.
- Maintain logs for medication refrigeration, point-of-care testing, sterilization, crash carts, and more.
- Support infection control by complying with PPE and safety regulations.
- May perform proficient phlebotomy tasks if required.
Administrative & Clerical Duties:
- Organize patient flow and appointment schedules; assist with registration and insurance updates.
- Answer phone calls; relay physician instructions to patients or families.
- Schedule procedures and surgeries and prepare charts, consent forms, and pre-admission documentation.
- Enter orders and prescription refill requests into the EMR for physician review.
- Manage patient medical records, lab/x-ray reports, referrals, and chart documentation.
- Ensure accurate billing, precertifications, and insurance verifications.
- Restocking inventory and managing medical supply orders.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Environment: General Office with Clinical Activity
- Physical Activity Level: Light (occasional patient assistance, minimal lifting)
- May involve limited strenuous physical activity (e.g., sustained walking/standing)
Skills & Competencies:
- Basic computer skills; MS Office Suite (basic level)
- Familiarity with EMR systems preferred
- Proficient in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines
- Strong communication skills with diverse, multicultural patients
- Excellent phone etiquette and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility and adaptability to fast-paced, evolving clinical environments
- Prior OBGYN experience is required.
Education & Certification Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- AHA BLS Certification
- One of the following National MA Certifications: CMA (AAMA, NHA, NCCT); RMA (AMT, NAHP), NCMA, AMCA
