The position of Project Developer will be part of the Development Team reporting to the VP of Development.
As a Project Developer specializing in renewable energy, you will lead the development of wind and solar power projects from inception through operation. A key aspect of this role is managing and coordinating Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across various disciplines to ensure the successful execution of projects. You will oversee the integration of specialized knowledge into all phases of project development, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and alignment with organizational objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and manage comprehensive project plans, including budgets, schedules, risk registers and resource allocation, ensuring the integration of SME insights into planning processes;
- Lead all aspects of project development, from prospecting to executing stages, including: land acquisition, stakeholder and permitting, engineering and interconnection activities, etc. Work closely with internal resources and SMEs, such as the legal, engineering, permitting and energy assessment teams;
- Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, utilities, and local communities, leveraging SME expertise to address concerns and facilitate approvals;
- Secure land surface rights to design, permit, construct, operate, and maintain wind / solar power projects;
- Oversee the permitting process at local, state, and federal levels, ensuring all necessary approvals are obtained with input from relevant SMEs to meet regulatory requirements;
- Negotiate interconnection agreements, power purchase agreements, turbine supply and service agreements, ensuring technical feasibility and alignment with project goals;
- Oversee the preparation of proposals that are submitted to utilities and other power buyers;
- Manage the collection, organization and filing of all project documentation, both internally and for external third party stakeholders;
- Communicate information continuously and effectively to cross-functional teams.
- Provide reports to management by producing regular and frequent pipeline updates, project status updates, and other reporting documents;
- Work with financial analysts to assess project viability, incorporating SME evaluations of technical and regulatory factors into financial models;
- Deliver on target volume, revenue, and margin goals for off-take agreements from wind and solar projects
- Assess market indicators, regulations and incentives affecting customer demand for renewable energy
- Other duties as assigned.
TRAVEL:
Up to 50% as required.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, permitting processes, and regulatory frameworks
- Excellent project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage relationships with diverse stakeholders both internally and externally
- Demonstrated ability to integrate specialized knowledge into project development processes effectively
- Detail-oriented approach to work with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in renewable energy project development, with a proven track record of managing interdisciplinary teams.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
