Founding Lawyer
TechNatives
Job Description
About the Company
We’re working with a new legal tech venture on a mission to make legal help simple, fast, and affordable for the 33M+ small businesses across the U.S. underserved by the current system.
The founding team is building a tech-enabled, hybrid legal services platform that combines self-serve tools, AI-assisted workflows, and a human-in-the-loop legal team - offering accessible solutions for everything from basic contracts to complex compliance issues.
Their belief: the future of law is hybrid, automation where it adds value, human empathy where it’s irreplaceable. They’re now looking for a Founding Lawyer to help shape this next-generation legal experience from the ground up.
Role Overview
This is a unique opportunity to become the legal brain and heart behind a product-led legal platform built for small business owners, creators, and entrepreneurs. You’ll help architect the legal model, advise on compliance structures, collaborate with the product and AI teams, and build a scalable legal team.
You’ll also serve as a key voice of trust and credibility in a highly regulated and trust-based industry—while helping reinvent legal access for the 99%.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as the founding legal architect for the business and product
- Partner with product and engineering to define how legal expertise and automation work together
- Navigate regulatory and structural models (e.g. ABS, non-lawyer ownership, compliance frameworks)
- Build and manage a legal team: paralegals, contract attorneys, partner firms
- Shape core offerings: pricing, engagement standards, legal templates, user workflows
- Provide legal input on real customer use cases—from contract reviews to employment matters
- Represent the brand publicly and build trust with early users and partners
What We Are Looking For
- Licensed attorney in California, Arizona, Utah, or Puerto Rico (or eligible to practice under local rules)
- 4–6+ years of experience in legal practice, in-house, or legal operations
- Resourceful, pragmatic, and comfortable working in ambiguity
- Interest in legal innovation, AI tools, and hybrid service models
- Passion for helping small business owners, especially underrepresented founders
- Background in small business law, contracts, employment law, or compliance is ideal
- Entrepreneurial mindset—you’ve either built something, advised someone who has, or always wanted to
Nice to Have (but not required)
- Experience with legal tech, doc automation, or ABS model startups
- Familiarity with ABA/State Bar rules on non-lawyer ownership and compliance
- Spanish or other language fluency (especially for immigrant-owned businesses)
- Experience designing legal frameworks in regulated industries (finance, healthcare, etc.)
What's on the Table
- Co-founder seat with early equity and meaningful ownership
- The chance to build a legal services brand that reflects your values
- Autonomy, flexibility, and a voice in everything from product to culture
- High-impact work helping millions of small business owners get the legal support they need
- A small, ambitious team building with urgency and care
