Job Description
The Office of Admission at Wesleyan University serves as the hub of activity and point of first contact for the university for thousands of prospective students and families. The Admission team is responsible for generating, processing, and reviewing more than 15,000 first-year and transfer applications per year and hosts over 12,000 individual visitors on campus annually while promoting the university virtually and hosting events worldwide.
The Assistant Dean reports to an Associate Dean of Admission, participates fully in all aspects of Wesleyan's undergraduate admission operation: recruitment, selection, and yield programs. They serve as the University's representative for all aspects of admission operations both on and off-campus.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing a strategic in-person and virtual recruitment plan, including visiting schools, community-based organizations, and college fairs, along with organizing and hosting recruitment events.
- Supporting Wesleyan University's commitment to the recruitment of historically underrepresented, first-generation, and low-income students.
- Participating in rotational dean on duty responsibilities, which may include leading information sessions and answering questions from prospective students, family members, and counselors in-person and via Zoom.
- Participating in Admission recruitment and yield efforts: Open House, WesExplore, Admission 101, WesFest, and other on-campus and virtual events.
- Engaging prospective applicants one-on-one and responding to specific questions regarding academics, admission, financial aid, residential life, and extracurricular activities.
- Reviewing, preparing, and presenting applications as a member of the Wesleyan Admission committee.
- Representing the university to prospective students, parents, high school guidance counselors, and community-based organizations.
- Establishing and cultivating relationships with students, parents, counselors, and alumni while representing Wesleyan University in professional organizations that support recruitment goals.
- Considerable work with students and serve as a liaison to current students and faculty.
- Assisting in the management of Admission programs to include but not limited to Admission volunteers, tour guides, and yield activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of experience in Admission in higher education or secondary school, or experience in a community-based organization or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Public presentation experience and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to efficiently read, analytically process, and effectively summarize large volumes of written content and sustain this pace over multiple months.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and empathy for people from backgrounds different from their own.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with others both internally and externally.
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects effectively and simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work productively both independently and as part of a diverse team.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to five weeks per year.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must have the ability to be insured under the University's driving policy.
- Ability to travel, by all modes of transportation, including by car.
- Ability to work extended hours, including some evenings and weekends during peak seasons.
Also must have experience in one of the following areas:
- Reading and assessing admission applications.
- Developing and evaluating annual recruitment plans.
- Managing internal and external communications throughout the recruitment & enrollment cycle.
- Managing Social media/communications.
- Managing tour guides/senior ambassadors.
- Experience with CRM (Slate) management.
- Experience with Access initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience reading and assessing applications.
- Fluency in a second language.
This position is required to work on campus with the potential (contingent upon performance) for a hybrid (on-campus and remote) schedule after working two full semesters on campus.
Hybrid work is only considered for residents of MA, VT, NH, ME, CT, RI or NY. (Relocation assistance to CT is available for those who qualify.)

Compensation: $52,400-$61,300
