Associate Director Engineer- Software

We are seeking an Associate Director of Software Development to lead our Trim's software engineering team. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, a technology advocate, and an empathetic leader who can drive innovation, foster collaboration, mentor team members, and deliver cutting-edge software solutions. In this role y ou will work on the Financial Wellness product team to build features and experiences that improve the financial wellness of our customers. This is a leadership role that blends technical oversight, strategic thinking , and people management . You'll play a key role in shaping the platform's architecture, delivery approach, and technical direction, while also developing talent and fostering a high-performance culture.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute a software development strategy aligned with the company's overall goals. Identify emerging front-end technologies and trends, integrating them into the software development roadmap.
• Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from ideation to deployment.
• Collaborate closely with product management, UX design, and other departments/lanes to align software development with business objectives. Build strong relationships with key stakeholders.
• Lead a team of varying levels and be accountable for decision-making in daily activities, ensuring team execution and removing blockers. Provide accurate estimates and coaching to team members.
• Deliver tough messages, handle disagreements, and address difficult questions to a non-managerial audience, with support from a more senior manager as needed.
• Articulate complex technical concepts in a clear, concise manner that is understandable by both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Lead the team through unfamiliar situations and serve as a change champion for new initiatives.
• Quickly learn and synthesize solutions for new problems within your domain, handling broader and more complex issues effectively.
• Align skill sets to problems to enable better problem-solving. Collaborate with stakeholders to define problems before moving into solution-generation, identifying possible pitfalls in various approaches.
• Work with the team to set the goals, provide direction, and assign responsibilities.
• Match team members' skills and interests to tasks where possible.
• Track work status, address issues, and provide guidance.

Requirements :

• 8-10 years of engineering experience.
• 3 or more years of progressive responsibility as an engineer on development teams directly responsible for building and delivering software-intensive systems.
• 3-4 years of leadership experience, with a focus on organizing, developing, and mentoring teams.
• Strong technical background in frontend development using Angular , JavaScript/TypeScript , and modern build tools as well as backend technologies like Ruby on Rails, Node.js
• Experience delivering customer-facing web applications in a cloud-native environment (e.g. AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Exposure to principles of planning, organizational change management, resource allocation, leadership techniques, and team coordination.
• Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with modern software development methodologies and tools.
• A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field (preferred).
• Excellent communication skills.

Target base salary range is $150K-$185K, which is based on various factors including skills and work experience. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for a competitive compensation program that is based on individual and company performance.
