Job Summary:
The Labor and Delivery (L&D) RN is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients throughout the childbirth process, including antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum stages. The RN monitors laboring patients, assists with deliveries, supports obstetric procedures, and ensures the safety and well-being of both mother and newborn.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide nursing care to laboring women, including monitoring fetal heart tones and uterine contractions.

Administer medications, including oxytocin, epidurals, and emergency drugs, as ordered.

Assist obstetricians with vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, and other labor-related procedures.

Monitor maternal vital signs and fetal well-being during labor and delivery.

Perform newborn assessments, resuscitation (if needed), and postpartum maternal care.

Support and educate patients and families on the labor process, delivery options, and newborn care.

Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).

Collaborate with physicians, midwives, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals.

Respond rapidly to obstetric emergencies such as shoulder dystocia, hemorrhage, or fetal distress.

Ensure adherence to hospital policies, safety protocols, and infection control standards.

Requirements:
Licensure & Certifications:

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the practicing state (or compact license, if applicable)

Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA required

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – AHA required

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Required

Intermediate Fetal Monitoring or Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification – Preferred or required depending on facility

Experience:

Minimum of 1–2 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience

Experience with high-risk pregnancies and obstetric emergencies preferred

Proficiency in electronic fetal monitoring and obstetric procedures
