Student Life and Development Director (HEO)
POSITION DETAILS
New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn offering associate and baccalaureate degrees, is accepting applications for a Director of the Office of Student Life and Development (SLD).
Reporting to the Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, the Student Life and Development Director will create, plan, and implement a comprehensive leadership development and student activities program, oversee advisement of registered student organizations, and direct community service and information programs for the City Tech community. The Director will be expected to ensure adherence to the College Association's policies, procedures, and financial obligations, oversee planning and operation of the student food pantry, and conceive and execute campus-wide programs and events.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervising all Student Life and Development professional staff and student employees.
- Managing all funds comprising the operational budget of the Office of Student Life and Development.
- Planning and executing New Student Orientation, the annual Commencement ceremony, and other campus-wide events.
- Developing, coordinating, and evaluating campus-wide social and cultural programs, including cultural history/celebration months.
- Overseeing the development of Student Life and Development program outcomes and associated assessment of all SLD programs.
- Advising the Student Government Association and coordinating the yearly student governance elections and retreats for newly elected student leaders.
- Advisement/supervision of student media-related organizations (e.g., newspaper, podcasts, etc.).
- Collaborating with academic departments to incorporate student learning into SLD co-curricular programs and services.
- Developing a college-wide comprehensive student leadership program, including workshops, leadership retreat weekends, and individualized club presentations.
- Other related duties as assigned by the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and eight years related experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration or related field.
- Experience with supervision of professional staff and budgetary management.
- Background in evaluating performance of professional staff, support staff, and volunteers.
- Expertise in the professional application of student development and learning outcome theories.
- Demonstrated experience in the development of programs and events (small, large, major) from initial stages to implementation and outcome assessment.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
- Directs planning, program development, and administration to support access, retention, multicultural, and other student affairs objectives.
- Develops plans for, and leads a student development services unit which comprises a variety of services and programs.
- Collaborates with academic affairs professionals and others in supporting retention and building a comprehensive learning environment that fosters the intellectual, psychological, social, leadership and recreational development of a diverse student population.
- Assists senior management in providing leadership, developing policy, conducting strategic planning, and representing student affairs in various professional activities.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the portfolio of student services in supporting divisional and College-wide goals; oversees data collection, tracking, and reporting systems.
- Manages fiscal and human resources; may oversee grant management activities for selected programs.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$124,656 - $141,858. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
