As the Managing Director, Real Estate for our Family Office you will lead a cross section of management, legal, finance accounting efforts across our real estate portfolio.
You will be responsible for the oversight of all aspects of our real estate investment portfolio - property and asset management, legal and transaction management, negotiating and overseeing all construction/entitlement processes, new acquisitions, financing, lending (preferred equity, bridge and JV equity), and accounting across the US.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversight of property and asset management.
- Develop and implement legal, financial, accounting, and tax strategies that align with the company’s business objectives and growth plans.
- Review and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including real estate purchase and finance agreements, joint-venture, private and institutional joint-venture agreements, leases, construction contracts, and employment agreements - and align with external counsel only when necessary.
- Oversee due diligence processes, including title examination, environmental assessments, property condition assessments and financial due-diligence processes.
- Manage entitlement processes, ensuring compliance with local zoning and land-use regulations, obtain variances when required.
- Lead deal underwriting and financial analysis across property sectors.
- Lead real estate structured finance efforts and their corresponding agreements and reporting requirements.
- Identify and mitigate legal and accounting risks, providing proactive guidance to protect the company’s interests.
- Collaborate with investors, partners, contractors, and external legal counsel as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience with legal documents such as JV agreements, leases and zoning codes.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or applicable experience in an institutional real estate setting with complex multi-layered entities.
- Ability to triage special non-performing assets from an operational perspective.
- A minimum of 6 years of legal and finance experience in an entrepreneurial real estate setting working on institutional quality transactions.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with a team, providing legal guidance to support business goals.
- Be of a deal making mentality.
- Strong understanding of real estate and property development industry practices.
- Experience working within a fast-paced environment with priority changes is preferred.
