Base pay range
$200,000.00/yr - $290,000.00/yr

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
VedaBio is looking for an exceptional Senior Director of R&D to join the VedaBio Leadership Team and lead our R&D product development efforts as we bring our first product to the market. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in molecular diagnostic product development, as evidenced by prior experience developing multiple assays and or instruments that have been approved or cleared by the FDA. The Senior Director will lead the R&D team in all assay and chemistry development (assay designs, informatics, sample preparation, instrument integration, and IVD study development/execution/documentation). They will use their product development experience to meet aggressive timelines to move products from feasibility to commercialization, and to design appropriate products that can be effectively and efficiently produced and manufactured. Moreover, the successful candidate will be a key contributor to the company’s strategic vision, and will work cross functionally to drive product development and commercialization efforts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work in a highly cross-functional team to drive technology forward through development and commercialization.
- Lead multiple projects/work streams, and serve as an IVD product development subject matter expert in collaboration with internal teams and external partners to advance product development timelines.
- Plan and execute research programs from early concept through feasibility, development, and verification/validation.
- Apply in-depth molecular biology knowledge and experience in the development of molecular diagnostic assay systems, including development of enzyme reagents and assay/chemistry workflows.
- Oversee integration of assay chemistry with instrument and consumables.
- Supervise and develop senior team leaders.
- Oversee the production of reports and documentation required for regulatory submissions, and mentor team members in activities related to IVD documentation.
- Become familiar and stay up to date with the relevant scientific literature and landscape technologies and contribute to our IP portfolio.
- Routinely summarize methods and results for internal and external audiences (internal technical meetings, external scientific conferences, regulatory submissions).
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
- PhD in life sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology), engineering, or related field with 10+ years experience in an industry setting, or equivalent experience (Masters Degree or BS with 15+ years of relevant experience in an industry setting).
- Experience with molecular diagnostics, IVD assay development, and with handling infectious agents.
- Proven leadership and effective people management experience required.
- Broadly experienced in molecular biology techniques including extraction and detection technologies, and with handling and manipulation of nucleic acids. Previous experience with CRISPR systems is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience with biochemical assay development and optimization.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Strong data and statistical analysis skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and highly cross-functional R&D start-up environment.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and strong sense of accountability.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties the employee is:
- constantly required to sit, and to reach to use computers and other office or lab equipment
- occasionally stand for extended periods of time, up to four (4) hours/time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Employee frequently works in a professional office or lab environment with lots of computer equipment, tools, and moderate amounts of noise and activity. Employee may occasionally be required to travel. The work environment is fast-paced and demanding. Off-shift, weekend and overtime duties may be required as assigned by the manager.
