POSITION SUMMARY
The Illinois Commission on Equity and Inclusion (CEI) is seeking a high energy individual with experience working as General Counsel and chief technical advisor to CEI.
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
- Subject to management approval of the Chair of the Commission of Equity and Inclusion (CEI) serves as General Counsel (GC) and chief technical advisor to CEI.
- Advises and offers consultation to the Commission which may affect policy, decisions, and actions of the agency.
- Serves as Chief Ethics Officer.
- Serves as Freedom of Information Act Officer.
- Prepares defenses of Commission decisions with the Illinois Attorney General before the Illinois Appellate and Supreme Courts.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Requires a law degree and a current and valid license to practice law in the State of Illinois.
- Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization, and one of those years within the legal field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Four (4) + years of professional experience in directing and supervising legal work across multiple functional areas.
- Three (3) + years of professional experience working with state and governmental law, and/or state and agency programs, policies, and procedures.
- Two (2) + years of professional experience working with anti-discrimination law.
- Two (2) + years of professional experience working with judicial and quasi-judicial procedures and rules of evidence.
- Two (2) + years of professional experience working with common law and the provisions of State and Federal laws relating to administrative and regulatory functions.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- This position requires the applicant to pass a background check.
- Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
- Requires ability to travel with overnight stays.
