Job Description
The Executive Director, Medical Affairs will play a key role in helping to set policy in a variety of organizational areas as the Company continues to evolve.
The incumbent will work with the Development and Research Organizations to oversee the publication and promulgation of clinical and pre-clinical data as well as other important information.
They will have responsibility for building, developing and leading a Medical Affairs organization appropriate for the evolving needs of Nektar.
In addition, they will be responsible for establishing a team within Nektar to support other parts of the organizations, including the Marketing/Commercial teams to ensure the appropriate and compliant communication of scientific and clinical information to health care professionals for both educational and clinical purposes.
This position will contribute to and support the Company’s research and development efforts to create high value therapeutics to address unmet medical needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead and manage the Company’s Medical Affairs function, allocating and directing internal resources and effectively utilizing outsourcing to achieve project and business goals in a timely manner.
As part of the Development leadership team, collaborate with the clinical and regulatory departments to support the planning, execution and management of clinical trials activities.
Maintain positive professional relationships with the medical community, especially in the company’s specific discipline/product line, to identify current and future business opportunities and emerging medical and health care practices.
Maintain a working knowledge of local/regional health planning issues and trends.
Work closely with Development and Research organizations to ensure that appropriate publication policy is in place.
Work closely with the Regulatory and Marketing/Commercial teams to ensure timely, accurate and compliant preparation and review of promotional and educational material.
Work closely with groups with Nektar to support continuing medical education in areas that are relevant to our products and programs.
Lead pharma‑co economic efforts with Nektar by hiring or utilizing external resources as appropriate.
Work closely with Clinical Development, Development Operations and Clinical Pharmacology to ensure appropriate institutions and academic centers have opportunities to participate in Nektar clinical programs.
Identify academic centers, investigators and physicians to initiate and / or participate in clinical trials and identify key areas of future research.
Drive the development of publications arising from studies and other relevant initiatives.
Professional Experience PhD degree or internationally recognized equivalent required.
A minimum of 12 years of medical affairs or clinical research experience within the pharmaceutical industry, CRO health‑related consulting company, or biomedical/clinical experience within academia (or a combination of aforementioned).
Minimum of 5 years of experience in leading a Medical Affairs function.
Additional Information Nektar currently anticipates the base salary for the Executive Director, Medical Affairs to range from $325,000 to $375,000 for candidates in the Bay Area and will depend, in part, on successful candidates location and qualifications for the role, including education and experience.
This position will also be eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan (depending, in part, on company and individual performance and at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.) The compensation described above is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described based on the market survey data.
