Job Description
Overview The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (SDCRAA) is seeking a Vice President of Operations / Chief Operating Officer.
The COO is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and has a critical role in creating and implementing strategies in support of SDCRAA’s vision, mission and goals, including reinforcing the organization’s culture and enhancing the customer experience.
The COO directs the day-to-day operations of the Airport and develops and implements all airport operations initiatives.
The COO’s scope of authority includes the Airport’s airfield and landside, airport security, public safety, facility management and traffic management.
The COO is also responsible for terminal operations, including oversight of large-scale construction and renovation projects.
The COO ensures airport activities are aligned with those of airport users including tenants, governmental agencies, and customers.
The COO serves as a liaison to SDCRAA’s stakeholders and collaborates with tenants and stakeholders to achieve the goals and objectives of the Airport.
Responsibilities Direct day-to-day airport operations and develop and implement operations initiatives.
Oversee airfield and landside operations, airport security, public safety, facility management and traffic management.
Oversee terminal operations, including large-scale construction and renovation projects.
Ensure activities are aligned with airport users (tenants, governmental agencies, and customers).
Liaise with SDCRAA stakeholders and collaborate with tenants and stakeholders to achieve the Airport’s goals and objectives.
Evaluate the work of assigned departments and ensure compliance with policies, directives, codes, regulations and laws.
Evaluate departmental activities and staff performance; recommend adjustments, improvements, or corrective actions; coach staff for optimal performance.
Monitor budget activities and seek methods to maximize budget allocations.
Represent SDCRAA at trade associations and at local, state and federal meetings and conferences.
Qualifications College degree and at least 10 years of experience in airport operations, maintenance and planning, with 5 years in a leadership role at a commercial service airport.
Experience with international carriers is desired.
Strong strategic thinking skills and demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams to achieve employee engagement and success.
Skill in assessing the needs of customers, tenants and employees; ability to create opportunities for input and address concerns.
Experience allocating budgets and staff resources to projects; ability to foster an inclusive work environment where all staff contribute ideas and time to meet organizational goals.
Salary & Benefits The salary range is $187,546 - $337,582 (with a starting salary of $262,564).
