This position has a typical 2026 salary range of $107,446- $164,301 (without locality).
Qualifications / Requirements The primary purpose of this position is to exercise second level supervisory and managerial authorities over the Legislative and Regulatory Engagement Division of the Environmental Directorate, Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC), a Primary Support Unit (PSU) of the Air Force Installations and Mission Support Center (AFIMSC).
The incumbent represents the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Environment, Safety and Occupational Health (ESOH), SAF/IE which is organized primarily to provide policy representation of regular Air Force, Air National Guard (ANG), and Air Force Reserve (AFRES) ESOH programs within the United States and OCONUS.

Citizen Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance Plans, organizes, and oversees the activities of the Division.
Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
Represents the Air Force Deputy Assistant Secretary with a variety of ESOH and AF interests through effective working relationships with outside agencies.
Operates under the authority, direction, and control of the Office of the Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Installations and Environment ((ADUSD (I&E)) and acting for SAF/IEE by serving as the DoD Environmental Coordinator (DoD REC) for all EPA matters nationally.
May be required to work irregular duty hours including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays on occasion.
Occasional travel away from the regular duty location may be required.
Knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, and practices of environmental planning, engineering or other scientific related fields to serve as the Air Force technical and managerial authority for compliance activity in air and water quality, solid and hazardous waste management, natural and cultural resources, and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) within the assigned geographical area of responsibility.
Knowledge of organizational structure of Air Force elements, federal and state agencies, local governments, how they are organized, and environmental planning functions within these activities.
Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
Skill in analyzing issues and preparing recommendations to resolve unique or novel problems, conditions, or issues.
Ability to plan, organize and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization.
Other Requirements / Significant Facts Degree
Engineering.
To be acceptable, the program must
(1) lead to a bachelor’s degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics
(a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress‑strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience
College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.
For Supervisory Community Planner (Environmental) (0020) Degree
Community planning; or related field such as urban affairs, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, sociology, geography, economics, political science, or public administration that included at least 12 semester hours in the planning process, socioeconomic and physical elements of planning, urban and regional economic analysis, and development finance. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience
courses equivalent to a major in one of the above disciplines, or a combination of related courses totaling at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the above disciplines of which at least 12 semester hours were in the planning process, socioeconomic and physical elements of planning, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
For Supervisory Biological Scientist (Environmental) (0401) Degree
Biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience
Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
For Supervisory Physical Scientist (Environmental) (1301) Degree
Physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience
Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
