Job Description

Responsibilities Responsible for covering clinical offices based on operational need.

Assists in the examination and treatment of patients, take vital signs, record patient charges, record patient history, assist in minor office procedures.

Participate in patient education, communicating effectively with others and functioning in the scope of practice.

Thorough knowledge of infection control and aseptic techniques.

Essential Functions Cooperates in the cross training of this position to ensure coverage at all times for all offices.

Interview patients; measure vital signs, pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height; record information on patient’s chart.

Prepare treatment room for examination of patients; assist physician with procedures; clean examination room and sterilize appropriate equipment after use.

Explain procedures and treatments to patients and their family in order to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.

Administer prescribed medication orally or by injection (subcutaneous, intramuscularly, intradermal) and document time, dosage, and route on the patient’s chart.

Observe patient and report any adverse reactions.

Administer treatments, and perform routine laboratory tests under supervision of a Physician, Allied Health Professional, or an RN.

Initiate intravenous lines, add plain IV fluids to existing lines, and discontinue lines under the direction of the Physician or an Allied Health Professional (must be IV certified).

Perform electrocardiograph (EKG), pulse oximetry, inhalation treatments, and operate other equipment as certified.

Travels between departments and facilities on an as-needed basis based on coverage requirements.

Inventory and order medical supplies and materials, as needed.

Functions in the LVN scope of practice and Riverside Medical Clinic policies and procedures.

Responsible for ensuring all expired sample medications and patient supplies are discarded upon expiration date.

Maintains current California LVN licensure and BLS certificate.

Qualifications Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

Current California licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.

Graduate of accredited school of Licensed Vocational Nursing.

Two years’ experience preferred working as an LVN in a multi-specialty group setting.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

Current California LVN License, Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association Certification and IV Certification required.

Current ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association preferred.
