SENIOR NETWORK & SECURITY ENGINEER
Job Description
Performs technical work maintaining all aspects of information security for the Broward County Clerk of Courts (BCCOC).
Monitors and protects against attempts to test or circumvent security mechanisms from internal and external activities.
The role includes creating, designing, deploying, and installing network and security solutions across all BCCOC locations and external agencies.
Work is performed under limited supervision with moderate latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment.
This position relies on experience to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures.
Responsibilities Provide network support and security for all BCCOC users and external agencies connecting to the organization’s systems via external networks.
Manage, install, and administer all network switches, routers, firewalls, and data circuits.
Conduct periodic security reviews of all information systems and implement security safeguards.
Troubleshoot communication problems, network performance, and work closely with external providers to ensure optimal network performance and availability.
Design network and security components throughout the organization.
Collaborate with technical staff in the review and design of network and security components during application design and implementation.
Install and administer security applications including antivirus, load balancers, multi‑factor authentication, managed detection and response (MDR), security information and event management (SIEM), and other related security applications.
Administer Windows and Linux based systems related to deployment and maintenance of security applications.
Ensure computer systems follow approved security policies and procedures.
Serve as an on‑call resource for network and security support for all BCCOC divisions.
Document and present network and security configurations throughout the organization and with external agencies.
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED supplemented by five (5) years of experience in network administration and cyber security roles; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
Valid certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), CompTIA Security+, or similar.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university supplemented by five (5) years of experience in network administration and cyber security roles; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of network availability and connectivity.
Knowledge of network threats, viruses, and malware and how to block offending network and/or system.
Knowledge of network and other hardware devices and how to replace them.
Skilled in differentiating between real or perceived network threats.
Skilled in making decisions that affect business operations to a substantial degree.
Skilled in consulting or advising management.
Skilled in server management.
Skilled in vendor management.
Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and applicable department and organization specific software and to learn and become proficient in the use of other specialized software as may be required.
Skilled in basic math including but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometric construction, practical algebra and metrics.
Skilled in working independently and following through with assignments with minimal supervision.
Ability to act as primary 24/7 on call resource.
Ability to perform various duties involved in managing network hardware within a Data Center.
Ability to use reasoning that minimizes duplication of efforts, including but not limited to comparing, classifying, analyzing and coordinating.
Ability to consistently exercise discretion and independent judgment in the performance of the job.
Ability to multitask while working with tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with judiciary, legal community, general public, management, co‑workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic background regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.
Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing.
Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule.
Physical, Environmental, and Sensory Requirements Ability to exert light physical effort usually involving some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 20 pounds).
May involve some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, walking or standing.
Tasks may involve extended periods at a keyboard or workstation and extended periods standing and/or walking.
Tasks are regularly performed inside without potential for exposure to adverse conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
Some tasks require manual dexterity, visual and hearing acuity.
Some tasks may involve identifying and distinguishing colors.
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals.
Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally and in writing.
