3/23/2026 Position Summary/Objective
The employee is the leader of the tournament and has overall responsibility for delivering the mission and goals set forth by the 3M Open Fund Board as well as the PGA TOUR.
The Tournament Director will work with a committee from the Board to develop and execute a plan to increase tournament net revenue, charity, and reserve levels through sales and marketing strategies.
Candidate with Minnesota business connections preferred.
Employee must be an excellent leader, have strong organizational skills and attention to detail, and the ability to manage people and process effectively.
Candidate will report directly to the Co-Executive Director.
Essential Functions
Revenue
Generate all event revenues above the title sponsorship, including presenting sponsors and partners by working in cooperation with the sales staff to develop and implement an annual sales plan for all product and sponsorship categories.
Oversee the Tournament Sales and Activation staff – conduct weekly meetings that have a singular focus on driving revenue.
Partner with sponsorship company contacts to develop and deliver effective and measurable sponsorship platforms, by managing expectations, communicating timelines, and ensuring contract fulfillment.
Develop methods and resources to creatively engage with, and enhance partner relationships, using industry knowledge and brand awareness to overcome challenges, create business opportunities, and exceed company objectives.
Work with Finance Director to develop reporting structure to highlight revenue YTD compared to revenue goals a.
Bi-weekly to Co-Executive Director b.
Monthly to Finance Committee made up of members of the 3M Open Fund Board c.
Quarterly to PGA TOUR Work closely with Title Partner on all facets of their partnership
Activation, Pro-Ams, Partner Program, Customer Engagement – to ensure success of the relationship.
Maintain oversight of Tournament Operations team to ensure that Revenue and Marketing side is aligned with all vendors and operations of the Tournament.
Marketing | PR | Corporate Social Responsibility
Develop and establish relationships with local media – and across all mediums and platforms – to consistently bring tournament messaging and specifics to the market.
Give all local interviews and serve as "the face" of the tournament in the local market.
Develop relationships with local marketing agencies.
Create an annual marketing and media plan, from concept to completion, with chosen marketing agency.
Work with local sales reps in each medium to negotiate trade agreements that add to the predetermined paid media spend in the annual marketing and media plan.
Establish, maintain and strengthen relationships with civic and corporate leaders in the community to enhance tournament attendance and revenue.
Work closely with Title Partner and 3M Open Fund Board on identifying charitable partners and maximizing those relationships in the community.
Administrative & Strategic Direction
Direct management of Assistant Tournament Director, Finance Director, Corporate Activation team, Media Director (see organization chart).
Overall responsibility to develop annual budget and hit all financial goals for the tournament.
Overall board of director relations and communications.

Role of Co-Executive Director All professional player recruitment, contractual and strategic relations with the PGA TOUR, and national media and broadcast relations will be handled by the Co-Executive Director.

Minimum of five (5) years of professional leadership experience with a consumer brand, agency, sports property or venue required.
Sales and corporate marketing experience within the Twin Cities area preferred.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in business management, marketing, advertising, or sports management (or similar field) from four-year college or university required.
