Job Description
Work Location and Format United States - District of Columbia - Remote (typically comprising one or more U.S. states).
The role may require travel 40–50% of the time and the use of a Pfizer company vehicle.
Role Summary The Antivirals Field Medical, Director is responsible for providing therapeutic area/product expertise for the designated therapeutic area across a broad range of external medical stakeholders (EMS) and initiatives in an assigned territory.
The role focuses on advancing medical strategy, education, and research activities to improve patient care and outcomes.
Responsibilities Plan and execute independent medical strategy and engagement for assigned external medical stakeholders within the territory, coordinating with Pfizer colleagues to achieve medical objectives.
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant therapeutic area, disease states, and Pfizer medicines; provide information internally and externally as needed.
Serve as a conduit and resource for Medical Information and stakeholder insights, sharing viewpoints with Pfizer and responding to stakeholder requests per guidelines.
Contribute to medical educational content strategy and execute aligned field tactics aligned with Pfizer Medical Affairs priorities.
Maintain effective communication and collaboration among headquarters medical colleagues, Medical Information, and other field medical colleagues.
Demonstrate scientific communication skills across multiple channels including live and virtual presentations, written communication, and telephone or virtual conversations.
Optimize patient care improvements in medical communications incorporating health literacy and cultural awareness principles.
Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and compliance guidance.
Educate external stakeholders on patient care gaps and guideline‑based care to enhance understanding of disease state and improve patient outcomes.
Achieve leadership‑defined expectations regarding the number of stakeholders engaged.
Lead advisory boards and manage inbound queries through an established triage process.
Partner with global medical and R&D teams to identify sites for Pfizer‑sponsored clinical trials, including those serving under‑represented populations.
Support investigator‑sponsored research (ISR) throughout the process.
Cultivate research expertise, staying current with congress data and disease‑state literature.
Maintain stewardship over shared responsibilities and serve on cross‑functional committees when required.
Provide mentorship to new partners, advisory boards, and study leads.
Participate in special projects as needed.
Field Medical Role Responsibilities (additional focus) Deliver approved medical content about Pfizer medicines and relevant topics in the therapeutic area.
Educate stakeholders on Pfizer’s clinical and economic impact, communicating real‑world data, pharmacoeconomic analyses, and outcomes evaluations.
Provide objective, scientifically sound medical information regarding Pfizer’s medicines and disease‑preventing benefits.
Execute mutually beneficial projects, collaborations, strategic medical patient‑care projects, and non‑interventional studies in compliance with guidelines.
Develop and execute a medical account plan while representing Pfizer Medical Affairs.
Engage key stakeholders such as quality‑improvement organizations, advocacy groups, and professional societies to align with Pfizer’s independent medical objectives.
Collaborate with internal colleagues to understand stakeholder outcomes and data needs.
Seek engagement from priority external medical stakeholder segments within the therapeutic area.
Respond truthfully, accurately, and in accordance with Pfizer policies to unsolicited medical requests.
Field relevant inbound queries from external stakeholders.
Initiate site identification for clinical trials and support under‑represented patient groups.
Provide medical support throughout the ISR process.
Communicate study design, methodology, data analysis, and interpretation to stakeholders.
Lead territory activities and maintain effective partnerships with patient advocacy groups.
Represent Pfizer Medical Affairs in professional associations, demonstrating medical professionalism.
Mentor onboarding partners, advisory board, and study leads.
Participate in special projects as required.
Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a health science is required; PharmD, PhD, or equivalent terminal doctoral degree highly preferred.
Relevant experience
PharmD/PhD with 5+ years; MBA/MSc with 7+ years; BA/BSc with 8+ years.
Experience in therapeutic area management, hospital therapies, outcomes, epidemiology, clinical, formulary, or other management settings.
Experience in managed care, payer, organized customer, pharmaceutical industry, or quality improvement.
Subject‑matter expertise in vaccines and/or antivirals recognized across stakeholders.
Strong leadership skills, including influencing, coaching, and driving results.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects remotely, prioritize, and exercise good judgment.
Experience working within a matrixed, multidisciplinary team aligned with medical objectives.
Change‑agility and adaptability to evolving healthcare environments.
Network and problem‑solve to identify solutions across the enterprise.
Self‑starter with sense of urgency and accountability.
Clinical and technical proficiency, including rapid adoption of digital technology and record‑keeping of interactions.
Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with Pfizer’s internal and external SOPs, rules, and regulations regarding medical stakeholder interactions.
Previous field medical experience.
Experience in the clinical, functional, and technical application of health information technology in the U.S.
Experience with optimization and customization of top EHR platforms and developing EHR clinical solutions.
Understanding of the U.S. healthcare system’s business environment and emerging trends.
Non‑Standard Work Schedule, Travel or Environment Requirements Use of a company car and frequent travel, including flights to meetings and headquarters as required.
Flexible travel commitment of 40–50% of the time.
Valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record; any DUI/DWI or impaired driving citation within the past 7 years disqualifies the applicant.
Other Job Details Annual base salary
$176,600.00 – $294,300.00 (range varies by location).
Eligible for Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a 20% bonus target and share‑based long‑term incentive program.
