06/22/2026 (open until filled) Position Summary The Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) in the Oncology Unit is responsible for delivering high‑quality, compassionate care to oncology patients across all stages of diagnosis and treatment.

The LVT supports the full spectrum of oncology services, including patient care, advanced diagnostics, and administration of chemotherapeutic agents, while maintaining strict adherence to safety and handling protocols.

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Valid state licensure as a Veterinary Technician Preferred Qualifications Hands‑on experience as an LVT working within a small animal oncology unit Duties / Responsibilities Patient care management and treatments, including collection of blood, urine (by expression, cystocentesis, or catheterization), and specimens for cytology, histology, or microbiology.

Perform routine laboratory test procedures, intravenous and arterial catheterization, and administration of medications and fluid therapies via oral, parenteral, and injectable routes.

Prepare and administer chemotherapeutic agents, adhering to safety protocols and proper disposal of hazardous materials.

Assist with sedation, monitoring, and recovery of patients for diagnostic imaging and sample collection.

Support resuscitative procedures and emergency care as needed.

Provide client communication (in‑person and over the phone), including education about treatment plans and progress updates.

Enter charges for cases, submit and verify lab work and imaging results, and maintain accurate medical records.

Collaborate with veterinarians, students, and staff to ensure smooth workflow and continuity of care.

Participate in the clinical teaching of veterinary students and veterinary technician trainees, fostering hands‑on learning and skill development.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies Ability to handle stressful situations.

Proficiency in phlebotomy on small animals.

Ability to manually calculate basic formulas for weight conversions and medication dose adjustments.

Knowledge of small animal anatomy.

Strong proficiency in medical calculations.

Exceptional attention to detail.

Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively.

Physical Demands Lift and carry up to 50 pounds (assisted).

Stand, sit, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently on hard floor surfaces.

Use manual dexterity to work with small or heavy equipment and containers.

Wear protective gear continuously (mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles, etc.).

Be able to work for long periods with arms extended.

Direct patient care and security access to medications and chemicals.

Background investigation required (criminal background check, credit check if applicable, reference checks, and potentially a drug test).
