Liberty Mutual Surety is recruiting for a Surety Executive Underwriter to join our Orange, CA Core Contract team.
As a Surety Executive Underwriter, you will develop and underwrite profitable surety business, servicing independent agents, brokers, and core contract accounts within an assigned territory. Your excellent relationship skills will enable you to build and maintain positive partnerships with agents, brokers, and accounts as a trusted advisor and underwriting resource. You will use your business and financial acumen to perform primary credit underwriting and risk analysis, provide recommendations, and make decisions on new and existing accounts. Responsibilities:
- Underwrite and negotiate accounts to maximize profitability while minimizing risk, including complex accounts. Evaluate customer financials, technical and organizational capacities, and character.
- Manage profitability and retention of your book of business, developing the portfolio through strong relationships and active engagement with agents and brokers. Assist in marketing plan development.
- Analyze financial statements to assess financial health and monitor risk through quarterly statements and work-in-progress data.
- Stay informed about Liberty Mutual Surety and Global Risk Solutions products, identifying and promoting opportunities with agents and brokers.
- Handle underwriting, accounting, and workflow issues within Surety policies and procedures.
- Assess changes in business aspects, including work programs, financial strength, risk inherent in work performed, data accuracy, and exposure. Coordinate issues with Underwriters and Management.
- Evaluate business continuity and funding mechanisms to prevent financial strain on customers in case of owner demise or insurable loss.
- Mentor junior staff as appropriate.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field, with 7+ years of surety underwriting or related experience; 10+ preferred. Strong preference for Core Contract Surety experience.
- Solid understanding of financial and accounting principles; sound judgment in evaluating financial and credit data.
- Proven analytical skills in underwriting risks.
- AFSB certification is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills to explain complex analyses clearly.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Organizational skills with attention to detail.
