This position provides relief support for Base Line Pilots scheduled to be absent during their regular shifts. The role is assigned to a Base within the Air Evac Region and covers Bases within and outside the Region as needed.
The Regional Director of Flight Operations manages the Area Pilots’ schedule. The Area Pilot ensures all aircraft operations comply with Federal Aviation Regulations, the Air Evac EMS Operations Manual, and all relevant state and municipal regulations. The pilot must report rested and prepared for duty, stay updated on weather conditions, maintain aircraft cleanliness and readiness, and submit all paperwork accurately and timely.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
Aircraft operation
- Operate aircraft safely and efficiently, adhering to the Rotorcraft Flight Manual.
- Monitor weather conditions and forecast updates.
- Conduct preflight inspections using the rotorcraft flight manual; report discrepancies to maintenance.
- Report major malfunctions, aircraft damage, or injuries promptly to the Operations Center.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
- 2000 hours total flight time
- 1500 hours helicopter time
- 1000 hours helicopter pilot in command
- 500 hours turbine
- 100 hours night unaided or 50 hours unaided with 100 hours aided
- Previous HEMS experience or equivalent preferred
Education and Credentials:
- Commercial Rotorcraft-Helicopter certificate
- Rotorcraft-Helicopter Instrument rating
- High school diploma or equivalent

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
Other:
- Must meet a 230-pound weight limit dressed in flight suit and boots
