The Director of Business Development will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans to expand the company's market share and revenue. They will work closely with the program management, customer technical support, marketing, product, and research and development teams to identify new business opportunities, negotiate contracts, and build relationships with key customers and partners. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of driving business growth in the battery materials, battery, or automotive industry.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING :

1. Execute a comprehensive business development plan to drive revenue growth and market share expansion in both the Automotive and Consumer Electronics segments.
2. Build and lead a team of Business Development Managers.
3. Collaborate with internal business development program management, technical support, contracts, and other teams to ensure that our customer needs are met.
4. Negotiate and facilitate the execution of supply contracts and pricing agreements with customers.
5. Provide concise and regular updates on business development activities to the executive leadership team.
6. Identify new business opportunities by analyzing market trends, customer needs, and competitor activities.
7. Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers and partners, including OEMs and battery manufacturers.
8. Meet with customers, attend industry conferences and coordinate onsite customer visits.
9. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure that product development aligns with customer needs.
10. Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the battery materials industry, including emerging technologies and trends.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR :

1. BS or MS degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or other technology or equivalent job experience. MBA or PhD preferred.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in business development or sales in the battery materials, battery, or automotive industry.
3. Excellent communication and negotiation skills and experience working with customers.
4. Demonstrated track record of closing direct sales, supporting customers, and forming successful strategic alliances to drive revenue growth.
5. Ability to structure and negotiate contractual agreements with multiple parties. Expertise in revenue & other financial models.
6. Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time, including to Asia and Europe.
7. Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment.
8. Mandarin Chinese, Korean, Japanese, or German language skills are a plus.

OTHER QUALITIES WE’D LOVE FOR YOU TO HAVE :

1. Automotive Industry Experience (OEM, Tier 1, or Tier 2), including a deep understanding of the automotive market.
2. International experience, especially experience supporting international customers (China, Korea, Japan & Europe especially).
3. Experience building and leading a team.
4. CRM experience.
5. Experience with SAP (or equivalent ERP tool).

The annual base salary range for this position is $140,000 - $190,000. All positions come with a bonus plan and company stock options. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, the applicant’s qualifications for the position; years of relevant experience; specific and unique skills; level of education attained; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the position is located.
