Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 15 years of demonstrated leadership; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 13 years of demonstrated leadership. CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense secret security clearance is required at the time of hire. Applicants must undergo a U.S. Government security investigation and meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of work performed within our facilities.
Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a passionate, experienced Strategy and Business Development Director (SBDD) for AUKUS and Advanced Undersea Systems programs. The SBDD will lead customer relationship building and market assessment activities for these programs, including cultivating key U.S. Government customers and industry partners, performing competitive and market assessments, and developing long-range strategic plans. The position reports to the Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for the Maritime and Strategic Systems Line of Business within GDMS. This role offers an opportunity to enhance organizational performance and profitability in support of critical national defense priorities. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions for high-stakes national security missions.
RELEVANT DUTIES AND TASKS:
- Lead business development activities for AUKUS and undersea systems programs. Collaborate with Vice Presidents of Undersea Systems and Progeny Systems Business Area for strategy and growth.
- Maintain key contacts with current and potential customers.
- Evaluate and manage new business opportunities, initiatives, partnerships, alliances, and joint ventures.
- Oversee market analysis, monitor competitive activity, and identify customer needs.
- Mentor and coach capture managers; may serve as capture manager for specific opportunities.
- Define vision, strategies, and tactics for the business area and opportunities.
- Assist in advertising campaigns and approve publicity and promotional activities.
- Advise management on the status of business development opportunities.
- Develop schedules and performance requirements; manage budgets for new business initiatives.
- Lead strategic planning, including identifying internal and external issues affecting growth.
- Monitor market environment for opportunities and trends.
- Develop and track profitability, productivity, and growth targets.
- Analyze market data to inform strategic direction.
- Set short- and long-term objectives; drive strategic planning processes.
- Oversee planning, staffing, budgeting, and expense management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Relevant acquisition and operational experience with US submarine and undersea warfare communities is highly desired. A technical background is essential for vetting business decisions and presenting solutions.
- Proven success in identifying, pursuing, and winning large capture efforts related to AUKUS and undersea programs.
- Broad market awareness, including budgets, customer priorities, and market dynamics.
- Deep knowledge of government contracting and acquisition practices.
- Ability to work independently and in team environments, demonstrating leadership and strategic thinking.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Experience building relationships with senior customers and internal teams.
- Basic understanding of international business and export processes, especially with Australia and the UK.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
- Participate in strategic planning and decision-making at senior levels.
- Make final decisions with executive input on business and operational matters.
- Contribute to development of methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects and personnel.
- Ensure budgets and schedules meet organizational requirements.
- Handle complex issues requiring in-depth knowledge of the company and market.
- Regularly interact with executives and major customers, including conducting briefings and negotiations.
- Influence organizational objectives and long-range goals.
- Understand that erroneous decisions can significantly impact operations.
Position can be remote, hybrid, or based in DC, VA, or MA. Willingness and ability to travel internationally to support customer engagement are required.
Salary Range: USD $257,403.00 - USD $278,518.00 per year, based on experience and location. The posting remains open until filled.
