Director of Engineering, Shopping and E-commerce (San Francisco)

The Role:

We are seeking a Director of Engineering, Shopping and E-commerce to lead our core e-commerce and broader digital customer experiences. This pivotal role focuses on driving innovation, enhancing performance, and guiding significant architectural evolution across the critical systems that power customer acquisition, engagement, and conversion. You'll have the opportunity to transform the end-to-end customer journey on Minted.com , from product discovery to successful checkout, while making a substantial business impact through technology.

This leader will oversee a team of approximately 25 engineers, directly managing an engineering leadership team within that broader organization. A primary focus will be providing strategic direction and pragmatic execution to modernize and optimize our entire marketing and e-commerce flow. • Actively foster a culture of effective and efficient collaboration with product management, UX, analytics, business partners, and other engineering and product teams to achieve shared goals
• Be responsible for the successful completion of our ongoing migration from a legacy monolithic architecture to a modern Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)
• Lead engineering efforts for strategic business initiatives, including optimizing traffic channels, modernizing search and discovery, and revamping core business logic like pricing and promotions
• Build and manage a process for sustained engineering and operational excellence, continuously elevating practices, promoting robust testing, and data-driven decisions
• Provide leadership and mentorship to Engineering Managers and a Principal Engineer, fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement within the engineering teams
• Guide critical technical decisions across the Shopping and Discovery engineering stack, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability for the platform
• Oversee the development and optimization of all commerce-related features, enhancing key performance indicators for the customer journey
• Manage third-party vendors and partnerships, ensuring accountability for the total cost of ownership of our e-commerce systems
• Actively contribute to talent development and acquisition, attracting, hiring, and growing top-tier engineering talent and leaders

• A highly collaborative leader who builds strong, trusting relationships across functions, driving effective partnerships with product, design, and business stakeholders to achieve strategic outcomes
• A seasoned engineering leader with extensive experience in software development and proven success managing engineering teams, including front-line managers
• Technically astute, having previously held a Staff+ Engineer or Architect role, capable of guiding complex architectural decisions for high-volume, high-performance consumer web applications
• Cognizant of how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming engineering practices, e-commerce personalization, and operational efficiency
• A change-maker who identifies opportunities for architectural evolution, proactively addressing technical debt and leading large-scale transformations
• Passionate about the end-user experience, consistently striving to improve site performance and overall reliability for a consumer-facing platform

• Proven experience in guiding teams through large-scale architectural transformations, specifically migrating from monolithic systems to Service-Oriented Architectures
• Hands-on experience with modern web technologies such as React (front-end) and Python (back-end)
• Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and technologies like AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Fastly, and LaunchDarkly
• Prior experience building and operating high-volume, high-performance consumer websites

• Experience working in a rapidly evolving e-commerce environment
• Experience integrating with data pipelines
• Background with A/B testing frameworks and experimentation in a consumer product context

Compensation:

The compensation range for the role applies to employment offers from Minted. Our employment offers fall between the minimum and midpoint of the range to allow for continued salary growth during your employment at Minted. The upper half of the range accommodates this growth and supports our intention to create an environment that encourages lasting relationships between Minted and our employees.

Geo Base Full Salary Range 0 - Includes SF Bay Area - $240,000 - $315,000

Geo Base Full Salary Range 1 - All non-SF CA, DC, NY - $220,800 - $289,800

Geo Base Full Salary Range 2 - Includes CO, IL, MA, MD, NJ, OR, RI, TX, VT, VA, WA - $204,000 - $267,750

Geo Base Full Salary Range 3 - Includes AL, AK, AZ, AR, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, NV, NH, NC, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, WI - $187,200 - $245,700

Salaries will vary based on various factors including but not limited to professional and academic experience, associated job responsibilities, and/or other business or organizational needs.

This role is eligible for bonus and stock options.
