Primary Function:
The Associate Director is tasked with researching, developing,writing, and implementing strategies to secure funding from corporations, foundations, and other institutional donors in support of Hearth’s missions and programs. The Associate Director collaborates with residential and outreach program staff to craft compelling proposals for solicitations from private grant-making organizations, foundations, and government agencies. Reporting to the Development Director, the Associate Director also partners with the Development Associate and the Community Engagement Manager as part of the Development Department team, which aims to enhance, diversify, and sustain philanthropic support from foundations, corporations, and government sources.
Major Functions:
- Identifies and researches potential corporate and foundation funding sources that match funding priorities and develops strategies to engage and solicit these donors.
- Develops and implements a comprehensive corporate and foundation grant program to support Hearth’s fundraising needs and plan that aligns with the Hearth missions, goals, and priorities.
- Manages the grant life cycle: drafting letters of intent, proposals, compliance reports, and acknowledgments, secure grant funds and expand funding sources aligned with the organization's mission and demonstrate expertise in writing proposals for corporate, foundation, and government grants.
- Works with the Development Director (DD) to strategize grant-seeking efforts and priorities and seek ways to improve grant-seeking efficiency.
- Maintains a tracking system for grant deliverables and deadlines, ensuring progress is monitored.
- Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with current and prospective corporate and foundation donors, serving as the primary point of contact.
- Writes and reviews persuasive proposals and grant applications that clearly align with the interests and priorities of corporate and foundation donors with the organization's programs and impact.
- Develops and maintains accurate records of corporate and foundation donations and grants and ensures timely and accurate reporting to donors on the use and impact of their gifts through our CRM system.
- Collaborates with other members of the development team to ensure alignment and coordination of fundraising efforts across all channels, including individual giving, events, and planned giving.
- Stays current on trends and best practices in corporate and foundation giving and continually evaluates and improves the organization's fundraising strategies and processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Development Director and the President & CEO
- Work with program staff to develop narrative and financial content for grant reports to donors.
- Interact with program staff to document project progress for donor reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research new funding opportunities.
- Network and build relationships within the Greater Boston Community.
- Monitor corporate and foundation donor priorities and general grantmaking trends.
- Serve as the primary staff person to plan, coordinate and execute the completion proposals annually.
Education, Experience and Licensure:
Bachelors degree in business, development, communications, or related field.At least 3-5 years of successful grant writing and development nt work experience.
Required Skills, Abilities and Knowledge:
- Excellent writing and communication skills; ability to conceptualize and articulate funding needs persuasively to potential funders.
- Ability to work with multiple deadlines and prioritize, in a dynamic fast-paced growth environment. Must be flexible, organized and detail oriented.
- Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate effectively with staff across departments.
- A willingness to pitch-in broadly within the development team and the organization where required.
- Able to concentrate on minimal to fine detail with varying degrees of interruption.
