Job Description
The 1632 Senior Account Clerk position serves on the Finance team of the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH). HSH has an annual budget of approximately $713M with significant state and federal grant funding. Under the direction of the Financial Systems Supervisor, the 1632 Senior Account Clerk will perform and coordinate the accounting duties for HSH.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures compliance with Controller’s policies and procedures, and accurate and timely recording of financial information in the City’s financial system.
- Prepares, processes, and reviews various financial, accounting, general ledger, payables, purchasing, encumbrance, and other documents in the City’s financial system.
- Conducts financial reviews of all reimbursement requests from sub‐recipients, pinpoint any potential issues, and conduct appropriate measures to prevent/resolve issues.
- Performs timely claim submission, identifies any discrepancies, reconciles and records revenue for California Advancing and Innovating Medi‐Cal (CalAIM) Housing Community Supports.
- Assists with fiscal year‐end closing activities, Controller’s Office annual post audit, Citywide single audit, and other internal and external audits.
- Ensures the Finance team provides excellent customer service, by listening to business partner needs, and identifying solutions that are efficient, fiscally responsible, and in accordance with City policies.
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
Experience: Eighteen (18) months (equivalent to 3,000 hours) of verifiable experience processing financial and accounting matters (e.g., cost records, deposits, expenditures, allocations), bookkeeping and/or financial record keeping.
Substitution of Experience: 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 6 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) in accounting may be substituted for up to six (6) months of the required experience.
Desirable Qualification(s):
- Government accounting experience and knowledge of City financial systems.
- Knowledge of federal or/and state grants.
- Experience coordinating with internal and external business partners to assist and advise on fiscal matters.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working with a diverse workforce of people from different cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives.
