About The Role
We’re seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Voice User Interface (VUI) Designer to lead design and evolution of the conversational and voice-driven experiences across vehicle, mobile, and app platforms. Working closely with UX designers, product managers, engineers, and AI specialists, you will craft natural, intuitive voice interactions that enhance the overall driving experience and define the next generation of mobility.
You will work closely with the Director of AI Experience and design leaders across Human-Machine Interaction, User Research, Navigation, Product Management, and Engineering teams to deliver innovative, intuitive, and delightful user experiences. This role offers the opportunity to impact the future of AI in mobility in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities

• Voice User Interface Design: Lead the design, prototyping, and refinement of voice user interfaces for vehicle, mobile and app platforms. Define the voice conversational flows, intents, dialogs, error handling, and multimodal interaction strategies (voice, touch, gestures, motion).
• Creative Direction: Develop and evangelize VUI design guidelines, persona development, and tone of voice for 42dot’s voice experiences across teams.
• Cross-team Collaboration: Partner with UX, HMI, Product, Engineering, and AI teams to integrate voice seamlessly into broader user journeys, ensuring consistency and excellence.
• High-Quality Execution: Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure excellent implementation of designs, rigorous testing, and iteration to maintain quality and meet stakeholder needs.
• User Focused Design: Conduct advanced voice usability testing, conversational analytics, and user research to continuously optimize voice interactions.
• Global Impact: Champion global scalability by ensuring voice experiences are localized and culturally relevant for diverse markets.
• Innovation and Trends: Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in conversational and generative AI, voice agents, and multimodal UX to maintain a competitive edge.
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Interaction Design, HCI, Linguistics, Cognitive Science, or a related work experience.
• 8+ years of experience designing VUI or conversational interfaces, with a proven track record of shipping successful products.
• Deep understanding of natural language processing (NLP) concepts, speech recognition technologies, and conversational AI systems.
• Proven experience designing and scaling voice experiences for automotive, smart devices, or consumer applications.
• Expertise in voice-specific design tools, prototyping, usability testing methodologies, and analytics interpretation.
• Exceptional communication, presentation and storytelling skills.
• Strong collaboration skills, with experience working closely with cross-functional teams including design, product management and engineering.
• Ability to lead projects across global teams and adapt voice experiences to regional languages, dialects, and regulatory requirements.

• Proficiency in multi-language VUI design, localization, and culturally sensitive conversation design.
• Background in conversation writing, persona creation, voice branding, or audio system integration.
