We are currently seeking a dynamic and accomplished General Manager to lead our GreenWaste Zero Waste Anaerobic Digestion Facility in San Jose, CA and Z-Best Composting Facility in Gilroy, CA. The General Manager is responsible for fostering a positive and productive work environment at both locations where employees can thrive and contribute their best work. Travel between both facilities is required. Successful candidates must have familiarity with post-waste collection operations, with the ability to manage the performance of day-to-day operations of anerobic digestion and composting facilities. The General Manager is responsible for all aspects of facility management, including supervising/scheduling all personnel, the maintenance and operation of all facility equipment and processes, managing expenses and budgets, and is responsible for maintaining and ensuring the overall safety of employees, contractors, and visitors.
Operations
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Engage with all enforcement regulatory agencies and ensure AD and compost facilities meet all Federal and State Regulations, OSHA, and local requirements.
- Maintain and update all environmental permits and necessary permits to operate.
- Communicate regularly with CALISO on kilowatt energy production.
- Drive standardization to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
- Monitor budget and operating metrics while optimizing processes, procedures, and performance.
- Manage multiple priorities and projects effectively.
- Ensure all equipment, structures and infrastructure are well maintained and monitors that they are repaired timely and efficiently.
- Oversee feedstock management, process controls and compost quality.
- Work with feedstock suppliers to ensure consistent production and material flow.
- Schedule all major maintenance on CHP engines and other technology throughout the facility
- Monitor gas sensors throughout the facility to ensure a safe work environment for employees
- Effectively manage relationships with all outside contractors through clear communication and setting realistic expectations
- Translate priorities into initiatives and actions that will deliver performance objectives
- Ensure alignment, ownership, and accountability across field business units
- Determines and manages workflows, ensuring staffing levels are consistent with business need
- Responsible for the training and development skills of the workforce by providing proper guidance and coaching and accountability
- Oversee the entire employee lifecycle, including recruiting, training, compensation planning, promotions, and termination decisions
- Attend weekly and monthly staff meetings with the management team, staff and safety officer
- Knowledge of composting methods, regulations, quality control and environmental considerations
- Understand the Anerobic Digestion (AD) Facility controls and computer system, the bacterial fermentation and biogas production process
- Tolerance for strong odors, dust or other environmental or weather-associated events
- Ability to synthesize complex information quickly
- Understand management of financial aspects of the business, including budgets and forecasting
- Strong commitment to integrity, objectivity, compliance with laws and regulations, accountability, and transparency while respecting confidentiality
- Proficient in Microsoft 365, including SharePoint
- Ability to collaborate and communicate with C-level executives, management, employees, state and local government agencies, business entities and the larger community
- Strong understanding of business operations
- Ability to handle workload in crisis or high stress events with short time frames
- Valid Class C License
- 5+ years of management experience
- 10+ years of solid waste experience
- First Aid/CPR certifications preferred
- Proficient in English (both verbally and in writing) is required.
- Familiarity with Spanish is considered highly favorable.
- Ability to physically push, pull and lift objects up to 20 lbs.
- Frequent standing, walking and being at a desk in an office environment for 6-10 hours a day
- Capable of wearing and working effectively in required safety gear, including hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and other protective equipment in industrial and outdoor work environments
Employees can expect exposure to industrial environments with potential variations in temperature, noise levels, and physical conditions typical of heavy equipment maintenance operations. The role requires flexibility in work schedules, including potential extended hours, on-call responsibilities, and weekend work to support continuous waste management operations. Personal protective equipment is mandatory, and the work demands adaptability in fast-paced, challenging industrial settings that prioritize safety, efficiency, and operational excellence.
