Occupational Therapist | Inpatient

Avera Health, a regional health system based in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Occupational Therapist for our Inpatient Healthcare & Medical Services department.

In this role, you will provide evidence-based occupational therapy services to patients admitted to our hospital, helping them regain function, independence, and quality of life following illness, injury, surgery, or exacerbation of chronic conditions.As an Inpatient Occupational Therapist at Avera Health, you will perform comprehensive evaluations, develop individualized treatment plans, and deliver therapeutic interventions focused on activities of daily living, functional mobility, cognition, and safety.

You will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team—including physicians, nurses, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, social workers, and case managers—to coordinate care, support safe discharge planning, and optimize patient outcomes.Daily responsibilities include assessing physical, cognitive, and psychosocial needs; selecting and teaching the use of adaptive equipment; providing caregiver and family training; documenting care in the electronic medical record; and participating in team conferences and care transitions.

You will use clinical reasoning and current best practices to address a wide range of diagnoses, including orthopedic, neurological, cardiac, pulmonary, and medical-surgical conditions commonly treated in acute and inpatient rehabilitation settings.Avera Health emphasizes compassion, hospitality, and stewardship, and you will be expected to deliver patient-centered care that respects the dignity, cultural background, and personal goals of each individual.
