Job Description

Columbia Mental Health is seeking a Licensed Mental Health Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services department in Washington, DC.

In this role, you will provide high-quality outpatient psychotherapy and comprehensive mental health services to a diverse adult and adolescent client population.

You will conduct biopsychosocial assessments, formulate accurate DSM-5 diagnoses, and develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that reflect each patient’s goals, strengths, and cultural background.As a key clinical member of our team, you will deliver individual, group, and family therapy using advanced therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, trauma-informed care, and other evidence-based modalities appropriate to patient needs.

You will regularly monitor progress, adjust treatment plans, and coordinate care with psychiatrists, primary care providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic, integrated care for conditions such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma-related disorders, and co-occurring concerns.The therapist will maintain timely, thorough, and compliant clinical documentation in the electronic health record, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, risk assessments, and discharge summaries, in accordance with regulatory, ethical, and organizational standards.

You will conduct risk assessments for suicidality and other safety concerns, create and document safety plans as needed, and follow established crisis intervention protocols to support patient safety.Working at Columbia Mental Health means joining an inclusive, supportive, and empathetic culture that values collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.

You may assist with psychoeducational workshops, group programs, and outreach efforts that support community mental health and reduce stigma.

You are expected to maintain strict adherence to ethical and legal standards of practice, including HIPAA and confidentiality guidelines, as well as Columbia Mental Health policies and procedures.The ideal candidate is an independently licensed clinician who brings strong clinical judgment, clear and compassionate communication skills, cultural humility, and a commitment to evidence-based practice.

You should be comfortable working with diverse populations, collaborating with colleagues across disciplines, and managing a reasonable caseload while maintaining high standards of care.
