Known for its outdoor activities and close proximity to the Potomac River, Martinsburg, WV is located approximately 75 miles Northwest of Washington DC and approximately 85 miles Northwest of Baltimore, Maryland.

At the Martinsburg VA Medical Center, we offer a comprehensive range of services, including internal medicine, ambulatory surgery, audiology and speech pathology, dental, nursing home, nutrition, podiatry, prosthetics, women's health, mental health and rehabilitation medicine.

Patient care is provided through an integrated primary care concept, and each veteran is assigned to a team of health care providers that follows the patient's care both as an inpatient and outpatient.

The Martinsburg VA Medical Center is seeking a Full-time Hematology Oncologist physician The physician is withing the Specialty Care Medical Service and directly accountable to the Hematology Oncology Supervisor .

Duties

Physician's clinical activity shall be a function of the VAMC Executive Committee of the Medical Staff clinical privileging process.

Provides direct hands-on patient care including evaluation and treatment of the hematology/oncology patients, determination whether patients need to be admitted to the hospital or managed in the outpatient setting, and management of chronic disease.

Comprehensive initial medical/psychosocial history and physical examination.

Order appropriate diagnostic tests and work-up.

Review and interpret diagnostic tests and take appropriate action.

Formulate and record diagnostic impressions.

Refer patients with appropriate consultations both within the VA and in the community.

Provide clinical guidance to patients, families and other heath care providers over the phone, secure messaging or through the mail to coordinate health care, educate and give advice.

Ensure accurate documentation of medical assessments, interactions and observations.

Responsible for supervising and teaching medical residents and students.

May be required to oversee mid-level practitioners, such as nurse practitioners or physician assistants.

Enter orders into CPRS for medications, consults, testing etc.

Establishes inter-personal and intra-departmental relationships to enhance optimal patient care.

Demonstrates competent and effective oral and written communication and provides appropriate patient/family member teaching and education.

Maintains familiarity and compliance with hospital infection prevention policies and procedures, ensuring the use of antiseptic methods of all in-clinic procedures.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor or Chief of Specialty Care Medicine.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday 8am -4:30pm  Pay

United States Citizenship

Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Residency Training

Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Proficiency in spoken and written English Preferred Experience
