Respiratory Therapist

Altru Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Altru Health System, is seeking a dedicated Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team in delivering high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care.

In this role, you will assess, plan, and provide therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory services to patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions across inpatient and rehabilitation settings.

Working closely with physicians, nurses, and an interdisciplinary care team, you will perform and interpret respiratory assessments, administer medications and therapeutic modalities such as oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, chest physiotherapy, and non-invasive ventilation, and assist with mechanical ventilation management and weaning protocols.The Respiratory Therapist will be responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting respiratory care equipment including ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP devices, oxygen delivery systems, and monitoring devices, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to infection prevention and safety standards.

You will respond to emergency situations such as respiratory distress, rapid response activations, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, providing airway management and supporting code team efforts.

This position also plays a key role in patient and family education, teaching respiratory techniques, proper use of inhalers and devices, and home-care instructions to support long-term respiratory health.Aligned with Altru Health System’s culture of collaboration, compassionate care, and innovation, you will contribute to care planning, participate in interdisciplinary rounds, and support quality improvement initiatives focused on outcomes, patient safety, and best practice protocols.
