Cone Memorial Hospital Location: 1200 N Elm St, Greensboro, NC 27401 Start Date: July 22, 2025 Contract Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night – 3 × 12‑hour shifts (19:00–07:30) Unit: Cardiac ICU (2H‑CVICU; Unit 10107) Job Overview This position is for a seasoned Cardiac ICU RN to provide critical, high-acuity nursing care in a 26-bed CVICU. You'll manage post‑cardiac surgery patients, those on mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, IABP, LVAD/Impella), ventilated patients, and those requiring CRRT. Early career travelers are welcome, but new graduates are not accepted. Prior charge experience is required, and floating across hospital ICUs may be necessary. Minimum Requirements Experience: Minimum 2 years of CVICU or equivalent SICU/CTICU experience Previous charge nurse experience required Licensure & Certifications: Active RN license (state or compact) at time of submission BLS and ACLS (AHA) required Residency: Candidates must reside ≥50 miles from hospital Core Clinical Competencies & Skills Hemodynamic & Vasoactive Support Management of arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, and central/arterial line placement/removal Proficient in titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips and continuous IV sedation Familiar with intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), ECMO, LVAD/Impella setups and troubleshooting Able to interpret hemodynamics and ventilator waveforms; assist with chest tube insertion/removal and ventilator management Advanced Respiratory & Renal Support Skilled in ventilator management, HFNC, CPAP/BiPAP, and ETT/tracheal suctioning Competent in CRRT/CVVHD care and arterial blood gas interpretation Post-Cardiac Surgical Care Direct care for post-operative cardiac surgical patients (OR → CVICU) Manage multi-system organ failure, infection prevention, and wound care including drains/V.A.C. Emergency/Advanced Life Support Immediate response to dysrhythmia, cardiac arrest, code situations, and multi-system failure IV & Medication Management Insert/manage PICCs, peripheral IVs, initiate blood products Administer heparin, insulin (IV), drips, and emergency meds Unit Details Staffing Ratios: Day/Night/Weekend: 1:2 Beds: 26 (census ~21) Floating: Required to other ICUs if needed Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend (6 weekends total) Orientation: 36 hours non-billable Call: None formally Highly skilled at multi-system, high-acuity cardiac care. Strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to manage complex hemodynamics.
