Job Description
The VA Boston Healthcare System and VA Bedford Healthcare System seek a dynamic leader to direct the New England Geriatrics Research, Education, and Clinical Center (NEGRECC). NEGRECC is a VA center of excellence located at the Boston and Bedford VA healthcare systems and is affiliated with Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine (BUCASM). NEGRECC is comprised of 23 core staff and over 15 funded investigators actively engaged in patient-oriented research and improving care for older adult Veterans. More than 20 ongoing clinical demonstration projects address a broad range of issues, including provider training, virtual care of veterans with cognitive impairment, transitions across the care continuum, frailty, and palliative care. NEGRECC research programs encompass health services research, clinical trials, and laboratory-based research. NEGRECC supports a large multidisciplinary/allied health training program and includes a dynamic post-doctoral training program. The NEGRECC also hosts the national coordination center for all GRECC advanced fellowships in geriatrics.
The NEGRECC Director reports to the Chief of Staff at VABHS. Applicants for this major leadership position must be an M.D., D.O., or Ph.D. clinician with national prominence and strong academic interests in areas related to aging and geriatrics. The position requires expertise in research and administration, including the ability to work across institutions and disciplines, as well as the skills to attract, motivate, and lead innovative and productive researchers, clinicians, and educators. US citizenship is required. Accomplishments should be commensurate with academic appointment as assistant or associate professor at HMS or BUCASM.
This position is eligible for a recruitment bonus and the educational debt reduction program.
VA Boston is the major tertiary referral center for Veterans from throughout New England and is strongly affiliated with HMS and BUCASM. VA Boston provides the full spectrum of inpatient, residential, and outpatient medical-surgical and mental health services across eastern Massachusetts. VA Boston is VA’s largest research facility, with $125 million in direct costs, and hosts multiple national research resources, including the Million Veteran Program, brain banks for PTSD, Alzheimer’s disease, ALS, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Gulf War Syndrome, and two divisions of the National Centers for PTSD. VA Bedford is a 400-bed facility specializing in geriatrics and mental health care across northeastern Massachusetts. It serves as a geriatrics training site for residents and fellows from BUCASM and other affiliated training programs. Research performed at Bedford’s Health Systems Research Center of Innovation and the Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center totals over $10 million annually, including the NEGRECC Bedford site.
