Salary Range: $165,000.00 - $210,000.00

What you’ll be doing.

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced candidate for a senior-level position that plays a crucial role in the success of Generali’s travel insurance line of business. This position offers a comprehensive exam program, including financial support and study time, for highly motivated candidates aiming to progress through the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) examinations, ultimately achieving Associateship or Fellowship in the CAS. Programming skills are critical to success in this role. This position provides expert level skill and expertise in the areas of data acquisition, presentation, reconciliation, actuarial rate indications, loss reserve analysis, and/or financial or generalized linear modeling. The Senior Actuary may act as a lead or mentor to less experienced team members.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Collect data, perform analyses, and present results for pricing indications, loss reserve reviews, and/or financial modeling.
2. Participate in actuarial analysis and recommendations to improve profitability, reserve accuracy, or modeled results including assisting in the development of appropriate methodologies and monitoring systems.
3. Become intimately familiar with company data systems and department processes to allow for conversion, enhancements, automation, and formal documentation of improvements.
4. Participate in special projects related to statistical modeling, development of new or revised systems and attendant reporting mechanisms, and problem solving, or investigation related to data acquisition/refinement and availability.
5. Respond to requests for special assistance, financial information, or actuarial support to other company departments or to senior management.
6. Collect and present statistical information on company experience and financial results.
7. Participation in peer review as ability and experience allows.
8. Participate in continuous learning activities, including building relationships across the company with colleagues in accounting, claims, finance, marketing, as well as within the actuarial department.
9. Progress toward actuarial accreditation through successful completion of actuarial exams.
10. Perform routine actuarial analysis under minimal to moderate supervision.

Required / Desired Knowledge, Experiences and Skills :

• 5+ years of actuarial experience.
• Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS)
• Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS)
• Effective communication skills (both written and verbal).
• Applies broad expertise and knowledge in highly specialized fields or several related disciplines.
• Leads and contributes to the development of company objectives and principles to achieve goals in creative and effective ways.
• Works on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles.
• Uses conceptual thinking to understand advanced issues and implications.
• Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Accountable for results, which may impact the entire function.
• Creates formal networks involving coordination among groups.
• Focuses on providing thought leadership and works on broader organization projects, which requires understanding of wider business.
• Requires conveying advanced information and persuading several diverse stakeholders/audiences.
• Recognized internally as a subject matter expert.
• May direct the activities of others.

Education/Certifications :

High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, or economics; or computer science with a strong secondary concentration or minor in one of above.

Where you’ll be doing it.

This is a hybrid role based out of our San Diego office. As a hybrid role, you will be working onsite 2-3 days a week and working from home 2-3 days a week.
