Costs Draftsman

I am working with a well-established and reputable who are looking to recruit a Costs Draftsman to join their growing costs team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional, or an ambitious junior looking to develop their career, within a supportive and forward-thinking environment.The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a varied caseload of costs matters and will work closely with solicitors, fee earners, and external parties to ensure costs are prepared, negotiated, and resolved efficiently.Key ResponsibilitiesDrafting Bills of Costs (paper and electronic), including Precedent H and detailed assessmentsPreparing Points of Dispute and RepliesConducting negotiations on costs matters with opposing partiesAdvising fee earners and clients on costs recovery, budgeting, and riskAttending costs hearings and detailed assessments where requiredAssisting with costs budgeting, monitoring, and forecastingManaging files in accordance with deadlines, compliance, and best practiceMaintaining accurate records and providing regular updates to stakeholdersCandidate RequirementsProven experience as a Costs Draftsman (or Costs Lawyer)Experience drafting Bills of Costs and handling disputes from start to finishStrong knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules and costs legislationAbility to manage a caseload independently with minimal supervisionExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong attention to detail and organisational skillsProficiency in relevant costs drafting software (desirable)Desirable ExperienceExperience in specific practice areas such as Personal Injury, Clinical Negligence, Commercial Litigation, or HousingAdvocacy experience at costs hearingsCosts budgeting and strategic advisory experienceWhat’s on OfferCompetitive salary and benefits packageHybrid working arrangementsClear progression opportunities and ongoing trainingSupportive team culture with a focus on professional developmentOpportunity to work with a diverse and interesting caseload
