The Head of Portfolio Steering is responsible oversight and annual development of strategic and tactical asset allocation (SAA & TAA), annual investment planning, asset-liability management, management activities, oversight of third-party mandates including Core, Core Plus and specialty fixed income mandates and oversight of key regulatory mandates. Further, the Head of Portfolio Steering facilitates the execution of NAMCO’s overall investment policy and results in conjunction with the Head of Portfolio Management and the Deputy CIO. Support M&A and other corporate related initiatives.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates and directs the daily investment activity for the insurance company and general account portfolios
- Steer portfolios on a day-to-day basis to exceed NII, GAAP targets and manage economic results
- Drive Strategic and Tactical Asset Allocation management for affiliated insurance companies
- Responsible for the allocation of SAA and TAA to affiliated insurance company legal entities taking into consideration regulatory and investment guidelines
- Hires, monitors, measures, and oversees 3rd party external managers, assist in managing 3rd party relationships
- Develop/enhance portfolio benchmark-relative performance analytics
- Coordinates and directs rebalancing of portfolio for ALM
- Manage and expand FHLB spread lending and REPO/REPO like facilities targeting a minimum incremental spread
- Manage the annual investment planning proces
- Managing regulatory relationships, reporting and compliance
- Managing Investment policies and policy statements
- Manage capital, liquidity, regulatory and tax constraints for affiliated insurance companies
- Develop planning strategies to help achieve target income and manage GAAP and STAT losses
- Design, draft and communicate investment guidelines for both internal and external managers
- Analyze new regulations for impact on insurance company portfolios
- Extensive interaction with accounting, legal, treasury, investment bankers, and clients as an advocate and point of contact
- Leadership of the investment portfolio aspects of insurance and strategic M&A transactions
- Assist in building practices and policies designed to attract, develop, and retain qualified investment professionals and staff to attain investment objectives and meet/exceed performance-based goals.
- Completes ad hoc reporting and investment analysis
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred, CFA or other industry designation preferred
- Minimum 15 years of investment and insurance asset management experience
- Title MD commensurate with experience
- Knowledge and experience in both public bonds and private markets
- Experience managing core, investment grade portfolios, core-plus mandates and below-investment grade portfolios
- Experience and knowledge in risk management and asset-liability management for insurance portfolios
- Significant experience in and understanding of insurance asset management
- Knowledge of Bloomberg and trading systems
- Strong level of oral and written communication skills
- Detailed knowledge of accounting, regulatory, legal and rating agency requirements for insurance investment portfolios
- Knowledge of manager selection criteria and management of asset allocation portfolios
- Ability to work in an unstructured and dynamic team environment
- Excellent math, analytical, problem solving and decision-making abilities
- Independent, thorough, and accurate follow-through on a variety of detailed tasks from many different sources, often under deadline pressure and with frequent interruptions
- Organizational, planning, prioritizing and managerial skills
- Natural self-starter with an appreciation for extreme ownership, accountability, and commitment to the intensity and challenges presented by the needs of a growing business
- Strong presence and the ability to be versatile in a fast paced, high growth organization. Sensitive to and accountable for upholding high cultural standards

Our compensation system is designed to reward performance, support development and job growth, and compensate individuals relative to their contribution to our organization.The base salary for this position falls within Nassau’s salary band 19: $250,000-$300,000 depending upon experience
