Job Description
The Core Tax Services Senior Manager is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objections, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. This role involves applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues, recognizing and communicating potential risks and changes in tax policy, and making top-level decisions regarding filing, preparation, and resolution of questions from federal and state agencies. Additionally, the Senior Manager will participate in marketing, networking, and business development within their area of expertise while maintaining client relationships and acting as the primary contact for complex questions.
Job Duties
- Tax Compliance: Ensures client compliance with authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens; reviews tax returns; plans for early recognition of material tax issues.
- Research: Identifies research needs, frames issues clearly, reports analysis, and trains team members.
- ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals: Applies firm policies and reviews tax provisions and workpapers, explaining components to clients.
- Tax Consulting: Develops methods to maximize client benefits, manages inquiries, and assists with protests.
- Tax Specialization: Develops expertise in specific tax areas and may conduct external training.
- Strategy Development: Researches and implements new tax strategies, leads marketing efforts, and presents strategies to clients.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervises and reviews work of associates and senior associates, trains team members, and manages workload.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; CPA, Attorney, or EA certification required.
- 8+ years of relevant tax experience; prior supervisory experience required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with tax research tools preferred.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong communication, analytical, research, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain client relationships, lead teams, and act with executive presence.
Additional Information
Salary ranges vary by location, e.g., California: $146,000 - $200,000, NYC: $175,000 - $205,000, etc.
