Director of Preconstruction

Job Title: Director of Preconstruction - up to $150K - Must have commercial estimating experience

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Overview:

An established and fast-growing commercial construction company is seeking an experienced Director of Preconstruction to lead its preconstruction efforts across a diverse portfolio of commercial projects. This is a senior leadership opportunity for a driven construction professional to shape early project strategy, drive estimating excellence, and contribute directly to overall business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead all preconstruction activities, including budgeting, estimating, design coordination, and value engineering.
• Collaborate closely with clients, architects, engineers, and internal stakeholders during the preconstruction phase.
• Oversee and mentor a team of estimators and preconstruction staff to deliver accurate and competitive bids.
• Develop and manage project procurement strategies, early scheduling, and risk analysis.
• Participate in business development efforts by supporting proposal development and client presentations.
• Continuously evaluate and improve preconstruction processes and technologies.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in preconstruction or estimating within the commercial construction sector.
• Proven leadership experience in managing teams and complex preconstruction efforts.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, project planning, and budgeting.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a client-focused approach.
• Proficiency with estimating and project management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, etc.).
