We’re seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead a high-performing estimating team within our Building Group. This role is based in Torrington, CT and plays a critical part in driving success across preconstruction efforts.
Must-Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management
- 10–15 years of estimating experience with a commercial or industrial general contractor
Strongly Preferred
- Strong proficiency in hard bid, CM, and design-build estimating methods
- Experience with Suretrack, Excel, and Timberline

Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership
- Manage the estimating department's delivery of hard bids, CM estimates, and design-build proposals
- Coordinate department workload and maintain a weekly bid calendar
- Hire, evaluate, and train estimating staff; support career development and growth
- Oversee estimating database and historical cost records
- Lead the project buyout process following successful bids
Estimate Oversight
- Review all detailed estimates, general conditions, and project schedules
- Ensure completeness of scope and address any bid-day issues or gaps
- Identify project risks and adjust pricing strategies accordingly
Bid Management
- Evaluate subcontractor and supplier invite lists
- Provide final input and leadership during bid-day decisions
Project Familiarity & Quality Control
- Review all project documents and Division 1 requirements
- Ensure quality standards are reflected in both self-performed and subcontracted work
Post-Bid Evaluation
- Analyze performance of awarded projects to identify successes and areas for improvement
Subcontractor & Supplier Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and vendors
- Maintain awareness of partner strengths, weaknesses, and market conditions
Additional Responsibilities
- Represent the company in client-facing presentations and marketing events
- Collaborate with other departments including project management, field operations, and accounting
- Support business development through identification of new project opportunities
