Teacher of the Visually Impaired

Position Overview:

We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to provide specialized educational services to students in grades K–12 for the 2025–2026 school year in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students who are blind or have low vision and will be committed to helping each student reach their full academic and functional potential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct and consultative vision services in accordance with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to adapt materials and strategies
• Assist in the development and use of accessible instructional materials, including Braille, large print, and tactile graphics
• Support students in developing orientation and mobility, daily living skills, and the use of assistive technology
• Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports
• Participate in IEP meetings and provide input on goal development and accommodations

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or related field
• Valid TX teaching certification with endorsement in Visual Impairment (or eligibility to obtain)
• Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and specialized instructional strategies for students with visual impairments
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
• Experience in a school setting preferred
