Major, Lindsey & Africa’s Interim Legal Talent group is seeking an Interim Nonprofit Contracts Attorney.
Overview : We are seeking an interim nonprofit contracts attorney to assist with contract review, drafting, privacy review and general issue spotting.
Company: Nonprofit organization.
Experience: The ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years of experience working on a legal team within a nonprofit organization.
Location: Washington, DC.
Responsibilities Include:
- General Corporate Research: Research and analyze legal issues that arise in corporate and privacy, which can be ad hoc. With an emphasis on writing and written presentation skills, draft memorandum containing a clearly written legal analysis.
- General Issue Spotting: Based upon the contract attorney’s legal experience, issue spot legal issues and discuss these with appropriate staff in the Office of General Counsel.
- Privacy: Work with cross-functional teams to support the Privacy Program's work. This work will include working directly with the Chief Privacy Officer and the Project Manager to ensure that other departments are and have completed their controls under the NIST Privacy Framework.
- This work may include reviewing state and federal privacy laws.
- Under the supervision of the Chief Privacy Officer and Privacy Program Project Manager, collaborate with multiple staff to prepare and respond to Privacy Program audits.
- Contract Work: As appropriate, assist with the review of some of the approximately 600 contracts per year.
- Review agreements, and ensure where appropriate terms are included (e.g., hotel addendum terms, privacy language).
- Triage complicated negotiations with Deputy General Counsel-Corporate.
- Align this review with a more detailed review of high-risk contracts and work to ensure that the contracts contain privacy language.
- Subpoenas/Litigation: If organization receives a subpoena or is involved in litigation, assist the Deputy General Counsel-Corporate in managing this legal matter.
Qualifications Include:
- JD and active member of the DC Bar. 3-5+ years of experience within a non-profit organization.
- Ability to handle a high volume of contracts.
- Work across multiple teams within the organization.
