Human Resources Manager (U.S. Based)
We are seeking a highly motivated, strategic, and hands-on Human Resources Manager to lead and grow our U.S. HR function. This role is responsible for developing local recruitment capabilities, driving key talent strategies, and overseeing day-to-day HR operations. As our first HR hire in the region, you will play a critical role in shaping a high-performing, mission-driven team and driving people initiatives that align with business goals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Talent Acquisition & Organizational Development
- Design and execute recruitment strategies to attract creative, production, and operational talent in the U.S.
- Identify hiring needs, forecast pipelines, and manage full-cycle recruitment
- Lead localized employer branding and campus outreach programs
- Optimize recruiting processes, tools, and data systems for efficiency and scale
2. HR Operations & Employee Services
- Manage the full employee life-cycle, including on-boarding, transfers, off-boarding, and documentation
- Advise on compensation, benefits, and employee relations in compliance with federal and state laws
- Maintain data integrity across HR systems (Gusto) and employee records
- Oversee administration of benefits programs, PTO policies, and insurance plans
3. HR Leadership & Strategic People Initiatives
- Serve as the main HR contact for the U.S. office, championing culture and employee engagement
- Partner with leadership on org planning, talent development, and process improvements
- Support performance reviews, feedback cycles, internal communications, and team events
- Coach and grow the local HR/recruiting team as it expands
- Leverage people insights to support decision-making and promote an inclusive, accountable workplace
4. Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure HR practices meet U.S. labor regulations and internal policies
- Handle sensitive employee matters with discretion and professionalism
- Monitor changes in employment law and proactively update HR practices
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- 8–10 years of progressive HR experience, with 3–5 years in a leadership or management role
- Proven success in recruitment and talent development, ideally in creative, media, tech, or startup environments
- Strong knowledge of U.S. labor law, compliance, and compensation/benefits best practices
- Proficient in English; Mandarin Chinese is a strong plus
- Highly organized, analytical, and capable of balancing strategy and execution
- Self-starter with a collaborative mindset and ability to thrive in a dynamic, multicultural environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building HR functions from the ground up
- Experience supporting remote or distributed teams
- Familiarity with creative industries such as film, content production, or digital media
