Chief Advocacy Officer
Advocacy and Government Relations (Hybrid Role Metro DC Area)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Chief Advocacy Officer leads the Advocacy and Government Relations (AGR) division to ensure that ADEA is recognized by policymakers as the “voice of dental education”. This role involves maintaining relationships with government agencies, higher education, health professions associations, and organized dentistry, to advocate for ADEA’s legislative priorities. The officer oversees analysis of legislation, policies, and court decisions affecting oral health education, research, and higher education, ensuring ADEA’s interests are represented. The position reports to ADEA’s Senior Chief Financial Officer.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead interaction with federal agencies (e.g., HHS, NIH, NIDCR, CMS, HRSA, UPHS, ED, NHSC, VA) to identify programs, monitor laws, advocate for funding, and inform members.
- Maintain and update the ADEA Advocacy Website with relevant content and resources.
- Oversee and contribute to the ADEA Advocate weekly newsletter.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with organizations such as the American Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and others.
- Serve as the ADEA Liaison to the Legislative Advisory Committee.
- Assist in preparing congressional testimonies and monitor state-level activities affecting ADEA members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Juris Doctor Degree (preferred).
- At least 15 years of experience in Congress, federal agency, or state legislature.
- Ability to analyze complex legislation and regulations.
- Knowledge of health care and higher education policy, law, Medicaid, and Medicare.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and research skills.
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
Compensation:
$220,000-$230,000 depending on experience, with comprehensive benefits.
