Job Description:
The Title IX Coordinator reports directly to the Dean of Students and has a dotted line to the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources & Chief Diversity Officer. Responsibilities include investigating claims of sexual discrimination, harassment, assault, violence, or misconduct, and determining appropriate responses or resolutions as per Policy and Law.
The Coordinator will assist complainants with support services and work with the Dean of Students to implement policies addressing sex or gender-based harassment, discrimination, and sexual misconduct. The role also involves developing and overseeing campus-wide education, training, and outreach programs related to Title IX, Clery Act, and VAWA. Participation in the College's annual Sea Term training program is required, with onboard support coordinated with the Master of the Training Ship and the Dean of Students.
Responsibilities include:
- Investigating and reporting claims of sexual discrimination, harassment, assault, violence, or misconduct.
- Facilitating appropriate responses or resolutions to complaints as prescribed by Policy and Law.
- Ensuring compliance with Title IX, Title VII, and other Equal Opportunity laws through daily review of policies and practices.
- Monitoring amendments and interpretations of relevant laws and regulations.
- Coordinating and conducting prevention and education training for students and staff, including leadership programs and student cohorts.
- Staying updated on regulations and disseminating information on Title IX requirements.
- Maintaining faculty and staff compliance records for required training.
- Collaborating with HR, General Counsel, and other offices on discrimination and harassment complaints, advising on policies and procedures.
- Supporting the diversity and inclusion initiatives outlined in SUNY Maritime's Diversity Plan.
- Working with academic and administrative units such as University Police, Athletics, and the Empire State Training Ship for investigations and training.
- Preparing annual statistical reports for the Clery Act compliance.
- Reviewing crime statistics reports from the University Police Department.
- Coordinating with the training ship staff for Title IX investigations onboard and providing recommendations.
- Disseminating training opportunities through SUNY SCI and other entities.
- Engaging in ongoing professional development related to Title IX and support services.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of professional experience with Title IX issues.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret federal and state equal opportunity laws, including Title IX.
- Strong counseling, negotiation, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Computer literacy and discretion handling sensitive matters.
- Research and data analysis skills.
- Experience conducting investigations and responding to complaints.
- Experience with student conduct adjudication and compliance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Legal Studies, Juris Doctor, or related fields.
- Understanding of higher education policy issues at state and federal levels.
- Experience in a public higher education institution.
Additional Information:
The position is a full-time, calendar-year Management/Confidential unclassified role serving at the President's discretion. Salary ranges from $69,000 to $82,000 annually, with a comprehensive benefits package. Review of applications begins immediately and continues until filled.
