As a recognized leader in providing Private Markets Solutions to clients across the globe, we manage approximately $130 billion in discretionary assets and have oversight of an additional $810 billion in non-discretionary assets as of June 30, 2024.
The Opportunity:
Join our team as we look to expand to satisfy the needs of our growing client base. We are hiring a Principal to join our Fund Investment and Relationship Management Team in San Francisco. In this role, you will work within our Investment Team to build and maintain strong relationships with our West Coast clients while developing a solid understanding of the global primary fund universe across all private market strategies.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading day-to-day client coverage, including regular client visits.
- Managing junior resources to oversee creation of key client deliverables, such as strategic plan creation/oversight, portfolio construction alongside Portfolio Management Group (quarterly review and allocation discussions), reporting & monitoring (regular updates and quarterly reports), client communications (pipeline calls, monthly calls, market updates), and ad-hoc client requests.
- Leading cross-selling and up-selling of Hamilton Lane products and services with existing clients.
- Partnering with Sales/Client Solutions to support pitch activities for prospective clients by being the expert on management of Separate Account and Advisory relationships.
- Managing and cultivating fund manager relationships, fostering West Coast US manager coverage to drive opportunities alongside secondary and direct investing teams.
- Overseeing the due diligence process for primary investments, including leading fund manager on-site visits, reviewing diligence materials, and presenting deals at Pre-Investment Committee meetings.
- Developing expertise in specific primary strategies to speak to similarities/differences of managers pursuing similar investment approaches.
- Becoming a subject matter expert on all Private Market strategies and competitive landscapes.
- Attending annual/advisory board meetings and conferences.
- Assisting in the development and mentoring of junior professionals.
Your background will include:
- 10+ years of experience in the financial industry/private markets client-facing setting.
- University degree; a Master’s degree and/or CFA designation are a plus.
- Ability to develop a working knowledge of our proprietary systems.
- Strong analytical, written, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work proactively and independently in a team setting.
- Ability to travel.
- Fluency in English required.

Salary range for this position is $175,000 to $275,000 per year, with actual salary depending on experience and other factors. An annual discretionary bonus may also be available.
