Job Description
Fate Therapeutics is seeking an Executive or Senior Director in Clinical Operations to oversee the efficient and compliant delivery of its clinical programs. This role involves close collaboration with internal functional leaders and external stakeholders such as CROs and trial sites. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing complex, early-stage clinical studies in oncology and/or autoimmunity, from strategic planning to study completion and closeout. This is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Senior Vice President, Clinical Operations, based at our headquarters in San Diego, CA.
Responsibilities
- Lead the execution of operational components of clinical programs, utilizing strong project management and leadership skills.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to make data-driven decisions.
- Ensure effective integration of clinical operations with other functional areas to align with portfolio strategy from pre-IND through development.
- Manage study plans, start-up activities, recruitment, CRO and site management across multiple programs.
- Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies proactively.
- Oversee budget, resource allocation, timelines, and operational interdependencies.
- Develop and improve SOPs and GCPs, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
- Coordinate with other functional leaders to establish and maintain study interfaces.
- Mentor and lead a high-performing clinical operations team fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 14 years in clinical research; advanced degrees and certifications preferred.
- Strong leadership and influencing skills with senior and cross-functional leaders.
- Proven success in building and leading high-performing teams.
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Experience in resource allocation and budget forecasting.
- Management experience with CROs and outsourcing.
- Deep knowledge of FDA and GCP regulations.
- Experience in developing protocols, SOPs, clinical reports, INDs, NDAs, and related documents.
- Effective communication skills to influence and guide teams.
- Team-building skills and ability to foster partnerships across projects.
- Experience in cell-based therapies is highly preferred.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Travel up to 30% may be required.
- Extended periods of sitting, standing, and vision monitoring; moderate noise levels.
Compensation
- Salary range: $250,000 - $295,000, based on experience and qualifications.
- Includes annual bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits.
